Commander Phone puts you in control of your business communications by combining powerful business telephony features, modern IP handsets and desktop or mobile apps, so that you can access your services from anywhere.

What are the benefits of Commander Phone?

Simple Monthly Plans

With Commander Phone you pay based on the number of handsets you need, and all our in-market plans include standard calls to local, national and mobile numbers in Australia.

No Large Upfront Equipment Costs

Your Commander Phone service is delivered over the internet, so you get the features and capabilities of a professional phone system, without the upfront cost of purchasing expensive PBX hardware. Your phone rental is included in your monthly plan, so all you need is a high-speed internet connection.

Phone System Features

Commander Phone has big phone system features for a fraction of the price. You can transfer calls, put calls on hold, set up voicemail to email or even have custom music on hold. You can set up phone menu systems to direct calls to the right people in your team and configure hunt groups to direct inbound calls to multiple phones around your business.

Smart Call Management

With smart features to help you manage your calls, you will never miss an important client call again. Take your business phone on your mobile, choose how your calls are directed and manage your call settings from anywhere with Command Central.

Plug and Ring Set Up

Simply plug and ring – plug your phones in to your Internet connection and you’re ready to make calls. Easy cloud-based management means you can set and forget or update user features from anywhere.

Flexible, Portable and Scales With Your Business

As your business grows, your Commander Phone solution can easily be upgraded to add more users and more. If you relocate, you just have to plug your phones into an active internet connection at your new premises and your phone system will be ready to use. You can even keep your local and 13, 1300 and 1800 numbers when you move to the new premise.

No-Contract Option

We know flexibility is vital in business, so we give you the option of a month to month contract, in return for an additional upfront fee.

  • Plus more

What is the difference in the plans?

The only difference between the plans is the type of handsets and the contract length.

Each handset is fit for purpose. Handsets are used in many different situations in a business and Commander Phone offers a handset to suit your needs. Whether it be a meeting room (Commander Office) or a receptionist's desk (Commander Office or Executive) or even at the back of a warehouse (Commander Cordless), we have handsets that match your needs.

What do I need to use Commander Phone?

Commander Phone uses your local power and Internet connection to make and receive phone calls.

To be able to run Commander Phone in your environment and across your internet connection there are number of things to consider:

  • Confirm that you have an Internet service that has the capacity and quality to carry your telephone calls. Most nbn™ services are more than capable of supporting Commander Phone. As a rule of thumb, you can carry up to 8 concurrent phone calls for each MB/s that your service supports in each direction (download/upload). A NBN50 connection with 20Mbps upload speed can theoretically support up to 160 concurrent calls if there’s no other internet traffic happening on the line at the same time. Concurrent calls depend on several factors, not just line speeds.
  • Check that you’re able to provide power to your new Commander Phone via the power pack we supply you or via your LAN switch (PoE capable switches and handsets only).
  • Check you have cabling that connects your new Commander Phone to your LAN switch (data network) or router/gateway. It should be Cat 5 or better. Note: We supply you a two-meter Cat 5 patch lead with the phone. Some handsets are Wi-Fi enabled, check the user guide for more details.
  • Check your LAN switch or modem for spare ports to make sure you can connect all new Commander Phones and all your other existing devices (computers/printers etc) as well.
  • Have a plan with Commander to manage other services like fax, EFTPOS terminals and security systems.
  • Work with Commander to transfer your existing numbers (port) or get new phone numbers.

I don't have a business grade internet service. Can I use a standard ADSL or NBN internet service with Commander Phone?

An ADSL2+ or nbn™ internet service or better is suggested. Most nbn™ services are more than capable of supporting Commander Phone. As a rule of thumb, you can carry up to 8 concurrent phone calls for each MB/s that your service supports in each direction (download/upload). An NBN50 connection with 20Mbps upload speed can theoretically support up to 160 concurrent calls if there’s no other internet traffic happening on the line at the same time. Concurrent calls depend on several factors, not just line speeds.

I have multiple locations. Can I still operate one Commander Phone system by installing the phones at each location?

Yes, an active internet service is required at each location for the Commander Phone to connect to the network. One of the great things about Commander Phone is being able to transfer calls or set up hunt groups across multiple different sites without expensive phone systems, VPNs (Vrtual Private Networks) or other equipment.

What does the Commander Cordless Phone do?

The Commander Cordless handset comes as a part of the Commander Essentials Plan. It is a DECT handset and base station that allows you to move freely around the office, using all the features of the Commander Phone service, just like a desk phone. It has a 2.4” colour display and exceptional high definition voice quality.

The Commander Cordless Phone is especially handy if you don’t want to run cabling from your internet router or switch to each desk/location in your business as the base station is the only device that requires an internet connection.

What does the Commander Desk Phone do?

The Commander Desk phone comes as a part of the Commander Essentials Plan. It is a desktop handset that uses all the features of Commander Phone service and would happily find its home in a foyer, office environment, meeting room or hallway. It has a 2.7" B&W LCD screen, 6 programmable line keys, can manage up to 4 calls simultaneously and has exceptional high definition voice quality.

What does the Commander Office Phone do?

The Commander Office phone comes as a part of the Commander Office Plan. It is a desktop handset that uses all the features of Commander Phone service and would happily find its home at a reception desk, office desk location, in a foyer or meeting room. It has a 4.3" colour display 10 programmable line keys, best in-class system design and has exceptional high definition voice quality.

What does the Commander Executive Phone do?

The Commander Executive phone comes as a part of the Commander Executive Plan. It is a desktop handset that uses all the features of Commander Phone service and would happily find its home at a receptionist’s desk, in an executive’s office or in a meeting/board room. It has a 7" colour touchscreen display, up to 29 one-touch line keys and exceptional high definition voice quality.

What about my fax?

Fax machines will need a separate business line to continue working as they do now. If your business only receives faxes, you can set up Fax2Email as part of your Commander Phone system which allows incoming faxes to be converted to PDF and sent to an email address that you choose. Fax2Email is a Smart Extra and has an $8 per month charge. You can keep your existing fax number, or we can provide you with a new one.

Is there a setup fee?

No, there is no setup fee on a 24 or 36 months contract option. If you choose the month to month contract option, a setup fee of $49 (Softphone), $129 (Commander Essentials), $159 (Commander Office), $199 (Commander Executive) will apply.

Can I use my existing Internet connection?

Commander Phone uses your existing Internet connection (or a new one) to carry calls from and to your business. It connects your new handsets to our Commander Phone servers. The speed and quality of your internet connection will determine how many calls can run concurrently over your connection. There are several factors that influence the quality of phone calls and number of calls that can be made concurrently over your Internet connection.

These factors include:

  • The upload and download speeds of your Internet service
  • The distance from your local exchange
  • The volume of other data traffic that your internet service supports

Most nbn™ services are more than capable of supporting Commander Phone. As a rule of thumb, you can carry up to 8 concurrent phone calls for each MB/s that your service supports in each direction (download/upload). So an NBN50 connection with 20Mbps upload speed can theoretically support up to 160 concurrent calls if there’s no other internet traffic happening on the line at the same time. Concurrent calls and call quality depend on several factors, not just line speeds.

How many lines can I purchase?

That's the beauty of Commander Phone! You don't need to purchase any lines.

We think of Commander Phone in terms of handset plans, not lines. You only need a plan per user.

Lines to your business disappear as your calls will travel up and down your internet service.

You will need to think about how many concurrent calls your business will make at any given time and make sure your internet will be able to support it.

Also consider, depending on the size of your business, you could have multiple Commander Phone but not require all of them to be on concurrent calls. For example, if your business has 10 staff with 10 handsets the chance of them all being on the phone at the same time is low, so you may only need to support 2 or three concurrent calls on your Internet connection at any one time.

Can I put Commander Phone on my existing ISDN2 service?

No, Commander Phone is a Voice over IP service and uses your internet data connection to carry voice. ISDN services are not required for Commander Phone.

You can port your ISDN numbers to Commander Phone and run your Commander Phone services over any internet connection capable of supporting the number of concurrent calls your business will make.

What are the shipping costs?

We don’t charge for shipping when ordering Commander Phone. There may be a small $10 shipping fee charged when adding accessories later.

Is there a cost to add additional features on the phone?

Commander Phone gives every user an enterprise telephony feature set, not matter which plan they are on. All you need to do is pick the handsets that best meet your needs. Cordless through to Executive, all the features of the most sophisticated phone system are available to all users. (Note, some features like video, for instance, would only work on a video phone!).

There are some additional services which do incur additional fees. We call these Smart Extras. These services provide extra functionality at the group level for call handling and call management.

What is a Commander Phone Smart Extra?

While Commander Phone is an all-inclusive fully featured phone system, there are extra options available to extend the capability of the system for your business.

Commander Mobility integrates your smartphone into your Commander Phone system. Your desk phone and mobile phone operate together, meaning your business phone can come with you wherever you have mobile data coverage.

Commander CloudQ means your customers never get an engaged signal and you’ll never miss a call. While they are on hold, they can listen to your latest specials or any other pre-recorded announcement you’d like to play them.

Reception Central gives your receptionist the power to manage phone calls from their computer, dragging and dropping calls around the business, seeing who is available or not.

Reception Sidecar extends the use of the Commander Office phone with a reception sidecar. It brings additional speed dials and phone status to the reception function.

Additional Hunt Groups - You can purchase additional hunt groups as your business grows. For example, you could have one for sales and one for service. Each one can be configured differently depending on your needs.

Additional Auto Receptionists - You can purchase additional auto receptionists to manage additional inbound numbers as your business grows. You could have one menu tree for your main number and another menu tree for your sales department.

Professional Installation - If you don't have time or inclination to install and test your Commander Phone system, then a certified Commander Phone technician can visit you onsite to unpack, install and test your phones.
